シャツを選ぶことが多い。
それはきっと、いま一番日常に近い服だから。
何を着ようかと迷ったときに手が伸びるのはシャツ。
きっちりして見えるけど、気負わない。一枚でもいいし、他の服と重ねたりもできるし便利。
そう考えるとシャツは季節を越えて寄り添ってくれる服なんだと気づく。
洗いざらしのコットンシャツは心地よく心を開いてくれる。アイロンのきいたシャツはピンと背筋を伸ばしてくれる。
ボタンを一つはずすだけでいつもと違う表情になったり、袖をまくれば、何だか前のめりの姿勢になったり。
そう、シャツには色んな一面がある。シャツを選ぶと今日がきっと心地よくなる。
だからまた、シャツを選ぶ。
そして次の朝も、きっとシャツを選ぶんだろうと思う。
I often find myself choosing a shirt.
Perhaps because, right now, it’s the piece of clothing closest to my everyday life.
When I’m unsure what to wear, it’s the shirt my hand reaches for.
It looks neat, yet never feels like too much.

Thinking about it that way, I realize a shirt is something that stays with me across seasons.
A washed cotton shirt feels easy, opening the heart.
A crisply ironed one gently straightens the spine.
Undo just one button and it takes on a different expression.
Roll up the sleeves and somehow I lean a little forward into the day.
Yes, a shirt has many sides.
Choosing a shirt makes the day feel more comfortable.
So I choose a shirt again.
And the next morning, I imagine I will choose one, too.
